In ‘The Club of Sinterklaas & barking on the parcel boat’ (2016), the annual December party is once again in great danger. This time, the festivities are threatened by the brilliant plan of De Vleugelaer, a lost inventor who has invented a spray that makes people bark. His idea is to market the antidote, which he has also developed, for big money after December 5, when all children are infected. It would be genius if it were that simple, but of course there are a lot of snags to the plan.

De Vleugelaer, together with his stupid assistant Igor, poses as captain of the steamer in order to gain easy access to the cargo hold. This way they can inject all the presents and it is arranged in no time that all the children start barking. Meanwhile, Danspiet has brought a cute dog on board. High Height Piet should know nothing about this, but secretly he is afraid of dogs. Of course it doesn’t stop with the barking of the endearing dog – you can already feel on your clogs that an accident has happened with that spray can and that the Petes are also barking…

‘The Club of Sinterklaas & barking on the parcel boat’ is the fifth cinema adventure in a row by the makers of ‘The Club of Sinterklaas’. The series saw the light of day on television in 1999. For children in the target audience, the film is quite nice. The humor is also aimed at them: great fun, of course, when a Piet thinks he can get rid of his bark with a medicine, but that he then starts to cluck like a chicken. Or that the chef is asked by the fake captain to hold the rudder, because he can stir well. Or that Igor, smelling of gingerbread, rubs himself with cow dung to lead the sniffer dog astray… For adult viewers it is a bit of a bite, but luckily ‘Barking on the parcel boat’ with a playing time of just an hour does not last long and is the pace is good. And it’s not scary either, so you can also let your offspring watch this film alone for an hour with peace of mind.
