Review: Eyes on the Road (2019)
Eyes on the Road (2019)
Directed by: Stefanie Kolk | 17 minutes | short film | Actors: Frieda Barnhard, Olivia Lonsdale, Sinem Kavus
‘Eyes on the Road’ shows that it doesn’t take much to tell a story. Three girlfriends, a car ride in the blazing sun and an endless conversation. It is a simple fact from which a lot can arise. Various issues are discussed and the girls start to doubt themselves and each other.
The cast is strong and consists of three talented actresses of a new generation. ‘Eyes on the Road’ is partly due to the credible dialogue between these three hip millennials and will therefore be recognizable for many young girls.
Unfortunately, however, it kind of ends there. There’s nothing terribly wrong with the film, but it doesn’t really stand out and isn’t very exciting at all. The design and choice of style is one that you see a lot in short Dutch films. A kind of Amsterdam slickness. This makes it seem somewhat made up, as if too much thought has gone into it. Fortunately, the natural acting makes up for a lot and as a viewer you are still part of the conversation.
