Mad Max 2 announced: Mad Max – the Wasteland

How you go from the happy, sugar-sweet animation film Happy Feet to a film that is as raw as action film Mad Max: Fury Road, that will always remain a miracle. But we are happy that the director George Miller has succeeded in turning his Mad Max into something that still has cash register successes in 2015. And far beyond, because there appears to be a successor in the making: Mad Max: the Wasteland.

Successor Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road (the one from 2015) is not the first Mad Max film, because Miller made it in 1979 (!). The Mad Max, in which Mel Gibson played the lead role, got two successors: Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It was already a big surprise that a new Mad Max came after the 70s and 80s, but now it appears to be getting a successor just like in the past.

The film for which Miller now one pressing is doing. Three Thousand Years of Longing is somewhat ineffective in interviews now that Miller has announced a successor to the beloved franchise. He said:

“I haven’t finished the Mad Max story yet and I think you should multi-task. A Mad Max movie is definitely coming. We are already preparing this. That multitasking is interesting. I often talk about this with other filmmakers. What happens to me is that you work on something, but you become so focused and distracted at the same time, that you take a kind of creative vacation by being busy with another project. It helps you to be objective and to look at things with a fresh perspective.”

Furiosa

Actually it is not so strange, because the director was already working on Mad Max when he was still deep in Happy Feet Two, but according to him it worked perfectly for him. The director even has enough material to make two more films, he believes. One would even be all about Furiosa, the character that was so convincingly portrayed by Charlize Theron.

He probably wanted to get started with the films before, but couldn’t do so because he was still in a lawsuit with Warner Bros., who did not want to pay out a multi-million bonus to Miller’s production house. Miller thought he earned the bonus because he delivered Mad Max: Fury Road on budget, but Warner Bros. thought otherwise.
