Review: Together Again (2008)
Together Again (2008)
Directed by: Martijn Veldhoen | 10 minutes | short film | Actors: Raymond Thiry, Inez Almeida
A man, lost in grief for his beloved, sits in his room surrounded by newspaper clippings and photographs. He loses himself in his dreams and in flashbacks we see what happened. The helicopter that seems to fly into his room. The helicopter explodes, or is it a symbol for his head, in which so much noise has arisen and is eventually about to explode? The beautiful pictures he took of his girlfriend, the fight after which she ran away, the question whether he will go with her. What is real? What really happened and what is he dreaming? What is certain is that this man is devastated with grief and that his life is turned upside down. The shreds of his past come too close.
‘Together Again’ is one of those movies you won’t get. It’s not clear, you don’t know what actually happened. None of this is chronological, there is no dialogue and the images alternate rapidly. Yet this film is so impressively good. It’s a work of art, it’s experimental but it’s definitely captivating. You’re left with questions, but not in such a way that it’s annoying, it actually makes the movie all the more interesting. We want to see experimental short films like ‘Together Again’ more often!
