Review: Princess Templeton: A Story with a Tail – Precious Templeton: A Pony Tale (2021)
Princess Templeton: A Story with a Tail – Precious Templeton: A Pony Tale (2021)
Directed by: Andrew Erekson | 4 minutes | animation, short film
Precious is the pony of Tabitha Templeton, the eldest daughter of Tim Templeton from ‘The Boss Baby’ and sequel ‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’. While this exorbitant gift from Uncle Ted already played a crucial role in ‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’, in the mini-movie ‘Princess Templeton: A Story with a Tail’ she even gets the lead role.
The venue is a state fair, a quintessential American event, where Precious competes in an election for the Perfect Pony. Of course she assumes that she will win, but that is just a little different.
‘Princess Templeton: A Tale with a Tail’ is a predictable, not particularly well-animated short film. The film also falls short on other fronts, such as humor. For example, the pony’s story is hidden in a frame story, so that at the beginning and end of the film you can hear Uncle Ted talking to Tabitha and Tina (who reads this story during the bedtime ritual). That form has been used so often that it detracts from the rest. If that is disappointing, there is little left to really recommend these shorts.
