Review: Magic Show (2009)
Magic Show (2009)
Directed by: Milan Hulsing | 10 minutes | animation, short film
Normally Milan Hulsing is a comic book maker, but he made an exception for Ruud den Drijver’s scenario. He worked for no less than two years on the short film ‘Magic Show’ that fools the viewer in ten minutes. The animation style is startling, but very recognizable for the modest group of fans of his comic “Wat Fred Niet Wist”.
Hulsing painted each image by hand and applied the cut-out animation, which provides a special viewing experience. Although it clearly remains ‘animation’, Hulsing manages to capture the atmosphere of the variety theater very well. If you read the summary and think you will see a film variant of the TV program “”Magicians Unmasked””, then you are mistaken: ‘Magic Show’ has much more in store for you. Unique film that gains strength with repeated viewing.
