Review: Lucid (2011)
Lucid (2011)
Directed by: Uwamungu Cornelis | 18 minutes | Actors: Uwamungu Cornelis, Maartje Remmers, Erik Kloeck
A man goes from party to party day in and day out, wakes up on a bench in the street and gets into an argument with his girlfriend. It’s completely understandable, of course, that she’s angry about that. But he doesn’t get it and leaves that evening – or maybe it’s a while later? – back to the club. There he has a number of confrontational encounters. He meets acquaintances and strangers, but especially himself. He seems to have been on the run from himself, and in the intoxication of the narcotics he thought he could escape.
The film ‘Lucide’ by director and actor Uwamungu Cornelis remains vague, it is sometimes difficult to understand what is really going on. But that also seems to apply to the main character himself, who is lost in his relationship. He has to find a way to cope with his new situation, and apparently that doesn’t happen by itself. During the lucid state of the main character, there are always the very painful interludes, which are quite funny. Excellent acting, and very nice visuals, but ‘Lucide’ ultimately lacks a strong plot.
