Werewolves continue to capture the imagination, justifying hundreds of movies, books, and games. Unfortunately, there are also productions that shake things up so much that you wonder if it isn’t better to just forget about these mythical creatures and never speak of them again. ‘I Am Wolf’ is one such film that raises this question because this production is really questionable. Monster fans will be very saddened by this piece…
In ‘I Am Wolf’ – also known as ‘I Am Lisa’ – it revolves around Lisa. She has done “an expensive study” abroad, but due to the death of her grandmother, she has to keep a bookshop running. She has a wonderful friend who supports her during this difficult time, but Lisa is having a hard time. Especially now that the local youth (in their early thirties) is after her and the gang leader happens to be the daughter of the local sheriff. After a fight that got out of hand, Lisa is left for dead in a forest. In that forest she gets a second life when a werewolf bites her. Time for revenge!
The synopsis sounds more interesting than the elaboration. The problem with ‘I Am Wolf’ is the lack of budget, talent and vision. The film aims to tell a dramatic story about the consequences of revenge (it solves nothing), sexual orientation (the gang leader is in the closet and is jealous of the friendship between Lisa and her girlfriend) and life in a small town. None of these themes comes through because each topic is brutally cut off or because it leads nowhere.
The acting is amateurish, the dialogues don’t flow and there is no character development. The horror part is negligible and if something happens (head in frying fat) the make up fails. A waste of your time!
