Humour, horror and porn meet in this Japanese film that undoubtedly has a rather exotic design to the Western viewer. It is reported that director and writer Jun Tsugita wanted to make a parody of the movie ‘Motel Hell’ (1980). He recruited hardcore porn actress Saori Hara for his cast.
‘Horny House of Horror’ belongs to the so-called Pink film genre. This Japanese soft pornographic genre originated in the early 1960s. Pink films are made on a modest budget and should not last much longer than an hour. For clarity; real explicit nudes are effectively blurred in this film. Which by the way does not mean that we are dealing with a family film here. But what can you expect in the next 75 minutes?
Young Nakazu will be getting married soon. But his baseball buddies insist that he undergo at least one happy-ending massage before then. The beautiful, but untrustworthy ladies of the massage parlor appear to have a different agenda. On occasion, they deprive their eager customers of the genitals. How? For example by turning it into a sushi roll and then taking a big bite of it. They are the kind of scenes that ‘Horny House of Horror’ is based on.
Well… humor? horror? Eroticism? Anyone who was already fond of the nakedness of the film, is quickly put with both feet on the ground during these splatter scenes. If only because of the supporting sound effects, which are very annoying to the ear and kill any kind of subtlety.
The story in ‘Horny House of Horror’ won’t get much more complicated. The fact is clear. The gory incidents are the benchmarks of this film, which won’t provide much extra surprise after the first incident. And yet, the curious and violent scenes continue to draw attention. The wink in it is obvious. ‘Horny House of Horror’ does not take itself too seriously for a moment. Fortunately, because for many other films the lack regularly meant a razor-sharp death blow.
‘Horny House of Horror’ may not make film history, but that does not diminish the entertainment value of the Japanese, sometimes a bit strange entertainment.
