Goodnight mr. Foot (2012)

Directed by: Genndy Tartakovsky | 4 minutes | short film, animation, comedy | Original voice cast: Corey Burton, Rose Abdoo

Genndy Tartakovsky, the director of all three ‘Hotel Transylvania’ films, made time in between the promotion of the first film in the series to make an animated short film, set before the events of ‘Hotel Transylvania’.

Apart from a ‘blink-and-you-miss-him’ appearance of Count Dracula, the film doesn’t have much in common with Tartakovsky’s CGI animation films. Although the story takes place in the hotel, the tone and certainly the style is different. The passionate filmmaker was determined to make an animated film along the lines of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. It is commendable that the filmmaker has a warm heart for the traditional 2D animation style. And ‘Goodnight, Mr. Foot’ also certainly feels nostalgic.

Story wise, it’s a little less interesting. Bigfoot takes a long journey from America to Count Dracula’s hotel, and by the time he’s crossed the ocean on foot, he’s exhausted. All he wants is a hotel room and rest. He falls asleep in no time, but not before a diligent witch slash chambermaid has spotted the new guest. She immediately set her sights on making him as comfortable as possible, but her ambitions miss the mark.

It’s somewhat predictable, but for a short movie like this it’s pretty funny. And the bouncer is more surprising than you might expect. ‘Goodbye, mr. Foot’ was released in limited release in the United States as a pre-film for ‘Hotel Transylvania’ (2012) and appears as an extra on the Blu-ray of ‘Hotel Transylvania 3’.
