‘Butt Boy’ by director Tyler Cornack is special to say the least. An unusual fact and giving it such a twist that you don’t have the idea that it is all nonsense. What are we talking about? About Chip Gutchel (played by Tyler Cornack himself), trapped in an unhappy marriage and working every day as an IT worker in the boring office of the firm RTM (RoofTop Makeover). But suddenly this ‘average Joe’ sees the light, after his first prostate exam to be precise. Once at home, he starts stuffing everything in his behind to continue experiencing the same pleasure: a bar of soap, the remote control, a washing-up brush, the dog (?) and a baby (??). Due to the disappearance of the latter, the police even show up at his door. Can Chip overcome his addiction?
Nine years later, Detective Russell Fox (Tyler Rice) attends an AA meeting for the first time. How coincidental, as a ‘buddy’ he is assigned old-timer Chip. Hard-boiled Russell, who is not too gentle while doing his job, however, has trouble reaching his buddy. His boss hands him a new case of a missing child. This turns out to have happened during – again coincidentally – the ‘Bring your child to work!’ day at Chip’s employer.
The stereotypical detective (greasy hair, earring in), a kind of Hans Teeuwen look-a-like, is invited by Chip’s wife for dinner. His suspicions about Chip are confirmed when he finds evidence in the bathroom. But how do you tell such a bizarre story to your superior!? Of course he doesn’t believe Russell and immediately puts him on inactive. Later, the lost detective tries to solve the ‘case’ after all. On a laser tag track, he tries to catch his ‘enemy’ Chip, but the opposite happens. This ensures that Russell gets even deeper in the shit… (pun intended)
‘Butt Boy’ is a cult film in the making. If you get over the madness of the subject, you’ll see a fairly successful black comedy/fantasy thriller with convincing performances from the lead actors. Rightly so: you just have to come up with it! But also: how do you get rid of it? About a bizarre addiction, a hero in the making and a possessed detective, the type of thoroughbred sniffer dog, who wants to uncover the truth at all costs. Someone who -literally- cannot be caught by one hole. Also note the intriguing film score by the band Feathers. In short: ‘Butt Boy’ delivers 94 entertaining minutes for those who dare to go ‘deeper’…
