Review: Auntie Edna (2018)
Auntie Edna (2018)
Directed by: Ted Mathot | 5 minutes | animation, short film, comedy | Original voice cast: Brad Bird, Eli Fucile
Who is your favorite Incredible? Chances are you’ll pick one of the kids, with Violet in the lead. But Jack-Jack, with his infectious smile and bizarre superpowers, is probably also the favorite of many film fans. In the short film ‘Auntie Edna’ he co-stars with the titular character. And steals every scene he’s in.
‘Auntie Edna’ is really just a stretched version of the scene from ‘Incredibles 2’, where Edna Mode comes to the rescue of Bob Parr by babysitting Jack-Jack. In the main film, we got a taste of what the quirky superhero costume designer had to choose from when she unsuspectingly started babysitting the innocent-looking baby, but in ‘Auntie Edna’ we get a humorous look at what actually happened that night.
Not only do we get to see more facets of Jack-Jack’s extreme abilities, we also get to know Edna Mode from a slightly different side. It even seems a bit like the bossy lady, who is always in control, is thrown off guard by Jack-Jack’s unexpected abilities.
Following on from ‘Jack-Jack Attack’, the short film that first introduced us to the youngest member of the Parr family, and which was released to coincide with the home entertainment release of ‘The Incredibles’ (2004), ‘ Auntie Edna’ featured on the DVD and Blu-ray of ‘Incredibles 2’. Not to be missed for Pixar fans in general and Jack-Jack fans in particular.
