Synopsis: Vidyadhar Patwardhan (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Sumitra (Sharmila) lives a middle-class life in Bombay. Their son, Amar (John Abraham), lives abroad in London, U.K.Vidhyadhar’s retired life is his gang of old friends at the laughing club, his friendship with an orphan girl and his petty quarrels with a auto mechanic Ali (Sanjay Dutt in a special appearance).Amar returns home for his birthday with his British fiancée Jenny (Anoushka), and although Sumitra would have loved an Indian bride, they both welcome the couple. They soon get married. While the parents are busy preparing for a surprise birthday party for Amar, Amar gets himself killed in a fight to save a young girl. The killer is identified as Harshvardhan Kadam (son of a politician). The police version is quite different from that of Vidyadhar, and they claim that Amar and Jenny were involved in smuggling drugs, a fight ensued, and Amar was killed. Subsequently, two men are killed in a police encounter, after confessing that they had killed Amar over a fight over drugs. Then Jenny is arrested for possession of drugs and lodged in a cell.Now that they have lost their son, Vidyadhar and Sumitra have to defend Amar’s name and also ensure the pregnant Jenny comes out of case.
