Synopsis: Ramesh (Biswajeet), is a very modern, young boy who wants to go abroad for further studies. He marries an illiterate village girl, Sudha (Mala Sinha) at the behest of his parents so that he can go to Great Britain. He does not accept Sudha, and cannot stand her. Sudha is heartbroken and tries to end her life. Shankarnath (Ashok Kumar) rescues her from an accident with his car. He even takes her to his place. There he learns about Sudha’s tragic story. He decides to help her. He coaches her on etiquettes and also teaches her English so that one day she can go abroad and win her husband back. Shankarnath’s plan works out, and Sudha wins the heart of her husband shortly after that in Britain. The story takes a turn when Shankarnath discovers that his own daughter, Jenny (Helen) is in love with Ramesh. Now, he is in big dilemma as to whom to support – Sudha, who is Ramesh’s wife or Jenny, his very own daughter.
