Synopsis: Sarbari and Saibal were both successful doctors and in love . Saibal comes from a very affluent family while Sarbari has to provide for her poverty- striken family and her invalid but principled father . This keeps her from accepting Saibal’s insisting proposals for marriage .Sarbari starts insisting her senior doctor and her teacher , Dr chawdhary who paves the way to earn extra . a surgeon with Saibal ?leads to Sarbari’s becoming pregnant . Dr chawdhary discovers the condition . Sarbari asks Saibal to marry her which he agrees to do but wants the child to be aborted to save them from social disapproval . Sarbari parts way with him to bring the child up in her name and never to reveal Saibal,s name to anyone . Disowned by her father, Sarbari seeks Dr. chawdhary’s help. He sands her away to Dr Bijon saha who runs the nursing home in the coalfields . A repentant Saibal finds Sarbari but fails. Sarbari is endered? to Dr. saha who treats him like a daughter . He discovers her condition and also asks Dr. chawdhary to find the name she calls out in a fainting spell . Dr chawdhary traces the name of Saibal who goes eagerly to meet Sarbari . In the meantime , Sarbari attacks the coalfield’ s owner to throat ? his insulting advances. Dr saha shifts her to his home in another place with the promise that he won’t reveal her address to anyone .Saibal comes out, its already too late . Heart broken , he leaves for England . Years pass . Sarbari brings her son up . She has a nagging complaint of chest pain which she hides. Dr saha finds her a job in Bombay .She learns of Saibal’s return from England and setting up a nursing home in Kolkata . In Bombay , she fails to get her son admitted in a school for the lack of a father’s name . She falls ill and is diagnosed with lung cancer. She arrives to be treated by Saibal in Kolkata . The two meet, after years all anger is forgotten.Saibal decides to operate her, himself, but at the last moment his nerves fail . Dr. chawdhary assists and guides him back to the operation. Sarbari expresses her will to live which she does.
