Synopsis: After his lover ditches him by marrying a rich person, a heart-broken Mohan (Sunil Dutt) takes up life of crime, changes his name to Bankelal and joins a gang run by boss (B M Vyas) whom no one has seen. One day Banke saves a child Munna (Daisy Irani) from drowning and they develop a close bonding. Munna’s widowed mother Laxmi (Shyama) does not approve his association with a criminal like Banke. When Munna fails ill, Banke visits him and promises him that he would reform and become a good person. Banke surrenders himself to the police and they ask him to help them capture the boss. Boss does not want to lose the services of Banke, so he kidnaps Munna in order to force Banke to get back to his old ways. In the ensuing fight, Banke is about to kill Boss, when Laxmi reveals Boss is Munna’s father. Boss runs away but gets killed by the cops. Banke marries Laxmi and they live happily with Munna.
