Joginder’s first foray into full buffoonery, Bindiya Aur Bandook is relatively more restrained than his later films. He doesn’t completely hog the screen here and allows the nominal hero to be the actual hero. However, the hallmarks of his later screen work is present in his portrayal of Ranga (later to give birth to Ranga Khush) which acts wholly independent of the overarching framework of the rest of the film – adopting a childlike voice that squeals and erupts wildly as sort of a highly corrupted Toshiro Mifune in Rashomon impersonation. Ranga runs about gets into odd situations and resolves them before finally coming into the main framework of the film to be defeated as the final villain (after a series of gang rapists are dispatched).
