Since her breakthrough in 2008 with ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Katy Perry has become an integral part of the charts. With this breakthrough, her dream of making in the music industry has come true. With her second album Teenage Dream she definitely established her name and she has become one of the most popular artists in the world. As a result, she can now go on a worldwide tour, which means that she travels all over the world for a year to perform for her fans. In ‘Part of Me’, Perry reveals what it means to live her dream, how she got to this point and what consequences worldwide fame has on her private life.

The film follows Katy in 2012, a turbulent year, because not only did she go on a world tour in this year for the first time, this is also the year in which she divorced comedian Russell Brand. This aspect is also discussed, albeit fleetingly; the focus is on Katy Perry’s music and the role it plays in her life.

It is very nice to watch Katy Perry’s tour, the concerts are a true visual spectacle with many costume changes and fairytale decors. It is also very funny to see what she brings to her audience. In addition, the artist – regardless of whether you like her music or not – is a sympathetic girl, who knows how to captivate when she comes into the picture. She also comes across as genuine, something that helps the credibility of ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’.

Fans of the singer will enjoy this documentary, in which there is also a lot of space for interviews with Katy herself and the people around her. But also for less great fans of la Perry ‘Part of Me’ is really a nice looking away film. It never goes very deep and the film was of course made by Perry and the people around her, so it is all very uncritical and positive, but just like in her songs, that lightness is also nice. Sugary sweet and easily digestible.
