Laban the sweetest ghost – Lilla Spöket Laban: Världens Snällaste Spöke (2009)

Directed by: Per Åhlin, Karin Nilsson | 45 minutes | animation, family

For those who have children in the target group (toddlers and preschoolers), a new film by Laban is a nice surprise and an excellent reason to treat your children to a cultural outing. The children who were still too small for the first two films can join in effortlessly: the stories are so simple that no previous knowledge is necessary. Let us introduce ourselves: Laban is a ghost who lives with his father, mother and sister Labolina in the beautiful castle of Good Morning Sun. Prince Bas also lives in this castle, together with the king and queen and the dog Rufus.

Laban is a special ghost: not only is Prince Bas his best friend, which is of course very strange, but Laban is actually too afraid to ghost. In the first two films we already saw that he has difficulty with that, after all, his sister can speak like the best and Laban finds it annoying that he is such a scaredy-cat. But in fact Laban is very happy, he likes to play with Labolina and Prince Bas and all his adventures end very well.

In the third film, which is again just long enough at 45 minutes, we meet Laban again in six different short stories. In the first story, the family baked chocolate chip cookies. Mmm… but unfortunately they are not allowed to eat these until after lunch. Mother puts them in the pantry. Whatever Laban does, all he can think about is those delicious cookies. Is he the only one who can’t resist the temptation to snack on it?

In the second story, Laban, Labolina and Prince Bas try to have a picnic, but a cloud bothers them. Laban knows how to solve the problem inventively. In the third story, attention is paid to the phenomenon of “shadow”. Laban gets into a fight with his shadow because he insults him! But this story also has a happy ending. In the fourth cutscene, Laban and Labolina are very naughty when they start painting with Mom’s magic paint. In the next video, Laban and Prince Bas discover a baby bat. Although they take good care of it, they notice that a baby prefers to be with his or her mom or dad. In the last story, Laban’s uncle comes to visit. Laban discovers that even a super ghost like his uncle can be afraid of something. The cartoon style is still pleasing to the eye and will definitely appeal to small children. It’s like seeing a picture book brought to life by magic. This is enhanced by the background. Not much detail to distract kids, but simple and effective. After seeing this film you can really only conclude one thing: Laban is really the sweetest ghost in the whole world.
