Review: Promare – Promare: Puromea (2019)
Promare – Promare: Puromea (2019)
Directed by: Hiroyuki Imaishi | 111 minutes | animation, action | Original Voice Cast: Kenichi Matsuyama, Taichi Saotome, Masato Sakai, Ayane Sakura
‘Promare’ is intended for the iPod generation. For people who are easily distracted and live for stimuli. For the generation that constantly looks at its smartphone and even peers at the small screen in the cinema, while it is happening on the silver screen. ‘Promare’ is a burst of adrenaline where bright colours, kinetic music and eclectic action scenes continuously beg for your attention. There is always something going on and the film never sinks in. Sometimes that’s quite nice!
‘Promare’ revolves around the Burning Rescue team. This group fights a band of aggressive superpowered mutants. These gangsters call themselves the Mad Burnish and have no good intentions for the earth. That’s going to be a fight.
The plot of this anime – a Japanese cartoon based on a manga – is wafer-thin and serves as a coat rack for a lot of hard-hitting battles. The animation is of a high level and combines 2D with 3D. Although the 3D animation is not always convincing, it is never disturbing. Because a lot of color is used, ‘Promare’ looks very cheerful and exuberant. There is plenty to see and the exuberant soundtrack and ditto voice cast certainly contribute to that.
This movie is definitely not for everyone. ‘Promare’ is for people who want to hear three genres in a song so that their music doesn’t get ‘boring’. For types who always want to see new things. This anime is intended for this target audience. The playing time of 110 minutes flies by and leaves you exhausted in your chair. So many stimuli, so much action: what happened? The entertainment value is very high. Story-wise, there is quite a bit to criticize about this film and the character development is not too good either. But if you’re in the mood for carefree entertainment and cool action, ‘Promare’ is for you!
