Review: Whiplash (2008)

Whiplash (2008)

Directed by: Arnoud Rijken | 5 minutes | animation, short film

In the animated short ‘Whiplased’ we witness a male victim of a car accident recover. A passer-by pulls him out of the battered car that crashed into a tree. His female driver is less fortunate, she seems to be dead. What happened? The man is taken to hospital by ambulance and in the ambulance the memories begin to return: these fragments gently resolve the issue. The form in which ‘Whiplased’ is cast is the most special: director Arnoud Rijken – co-founder and owner of animation production house il Luster – uses a striking and inventive technique by processing real film images with the computer into animation images. The unnatural colors enhance the animation effect. Very well made and original. See if you get the chance!
