Three dots, a few hard hits on the ‘Enter’ button and a large white area are the only proper ways to start a review of ‘Tokyo Gore Police’. After this completely crazy, nihilistic violent film you fall silent for a while. Very impressive to see how much mutilation, blood waves and grotesque monsters fit into one film. A lot of. A lot.

‘Tokyo Gore Police’ is set in the near future. Tokyo’s police force is privatized and extremely sadistic. Quite rightly so, because a mutant plague is raging in the city. It’s up to super agent Ruka (Eihi Shiina) to crush the monstrous creatures. Literally and with a lot of bloodshed.

Well. What can you say about a movie like this? Not too much really, because then you spoil the fun. Director Yoshihiro Nishimura goes completely over the top in this superlative of an ‘average’ splatter film. You almost feel dirty afterwards because you saw gallons of blood splashing against the camera in a cheerful (and lavish) way. Nishimura is also not stingy with showing amputated body parts, genitals and mutilations. In fact, you watch gore and unsavory horror passages for almost two hours. Sometimes just a little too much of a good thing, because you are not allowed to rest and blood is flowing non-stop. The atmosphere is raunchy and extremely strange. The humor is inky black and the storyline is strange. For deep meaning, don’t watch this movie. For grotesque action and Manga-like passages full of strange creatures and impossible events.

‘Tokyo Gore Police’ is a cabinet of curiosities that makes every Tarantino film pale. Fans of hentai, crazy horror and crazy ADHD action should not miss this trip. You will never forget a movie like this…
