Review: Eject (2019)

Eject (2019)

Directed by: David Yorke | 9 minutes | short film, horror | Actors: Elena Saurel

Imagine: after having itchy on your arm for a while, you see a spot that gets bigger and redder. You can hardly stay away from it and suddenly a piece of skin comes off. Below that you will see an input for a USB stick. Wouldn’t that be enough to make you pass out or freak out?

Lead actress Kate (Elena Saurel) is especially surprised and intrigued in the short horror film ‘Eject’. After just a moment of doubt, she plugs a USB stick into her arm and immediately finds herself in her own brain.

‘Eject’ takes full advantage of the original premise, as this principle remains interesting throughout the playing time. The film initially seems to be going in the direction of body horror, in short fragments we see Kate constantly scratching her arm and the rash is getting worse. But after her WTF moment, ‘Eject’ turns into a highly effective and beautifully filmed psychological horror film. Kate’s discovery and what she does with it next is entirely plausible, and while the ending is certainly predictable, this short film by David Yorke is definitely worth watching.
