Sometimes you already know what to expect from a movie after two minutes. You know what kind of meat you have in the tub and whether all your expectations are met. ‘Curse of the Witch’s Doll’ is of a different caliber. The cover alone indicates that your expectations should be ‘very low’ to say the least when this disc pops into your DVD player. The reason for going to see this so-called horror film – the Witch’s Doll – is laughably bad. The witch doll from the title looks like a sniffed trash can doll that would make even a stone laugh. An idiotic grimace, eyes the size of saucers and a disheveled cut give this movie monster a rather ridiculous look that makes you laugh. This toy is supposed to cause anxiety… This can’t possibly go well and it doesn’t.

‘Curse of the Witch’s Doll’ revolves around a mother and daughter who, in 1942, hide in a drawer house to escape the Second World War. Britain is under attack and the family struggles to survive. Mother accepts a generous offer to stay in the villa in a wooded area. My daughter is less enthusiastic. That changes when she encounters a mysterious doll. This demonic Barbie is a bad influence on the girl.

Well. If the villain of the film cannot be taken seriously, there is little left of a film that relies on sowing fear. ‘Curse of the Witch’s Doll’ is a very amateurish film that excels at ignorance. The storytelling is slow and the acting is abysmal. The actress who plays the daughter does not act but shouts and screams. She reads every sentence and is not very good (read: she immediately gets on your nerves). The actress who plays the mother will also not win a Bafta or Oscar. The bad acting doesn’t make this horror movie any better. There is really no reason to watch this movie. Maybe to laugh, but then the necessary amount of alcohol will certainly have to be consumed.
