Review: The Wedding Date (2005)
The Wedding Date (2005)
Directed by: Clare Kilner | 90 minutes | comedy, romance | Actors: Debra Messing, Dermot Mulroney, Amy Adams, Jack Davenport, Sarah Parish, Jeremy Sheffield, Peter Egan, Holland Taylor
‘The Wedding Date’ is a romantic comedy, full of clichés and predictability, but despite all that, the film is very successful. This film can be compared to the well-known film ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, a romantic comedy from 1997. The subjects are different, but the atmosphere and the common thread are exactly the same. The ex, the new love, the family and a party as the final scene are indispensable in both films.
Debra Messing, the star of the well-known American television series “Will & Grace” plays the lead role in this creation by director Clare Kilner. With her clumsiness, nervousness and chaotic nature, the character Kat is very similar to Grace. Perhaps that is why she was offered the lead role, after all it is nice to watch an old acquaintance. Dermot Mulroney is also doing what he is good at again. Charming as he is, he plays the delightful and fascinating man who does well with everyone except the men. His character is funny, sexy and also profound, just like the character he played in ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’.
Some one-liners are original: Every woman has the exact love life she wants, but unfortunately the book with old quotes is also taken off the shelf. The hardest thing is loving someone and to have the courage to let them love you back must after Get out of here are the most common statement in movies.
Almost all songs in the film are sung by Michael Bublé. A good choice, with his warm voice and romantic and sensitive lyrics he knows how to arouse the feeling of being in love, exactly what this film needs. This comedy is highly recommended for anyone who wants to be in love again for an evening. And for the women: just seeing Dermot Mulroney in boxer shorts is reason enough to visit this creation.
